Fully Integrated ISBT 128 Printing System Offers Choice to Blood Bank Managers

Computype, Niceware International partner on first-ever label-printing software compatible with any  thermal printer

St. Paul, MN (September 18, 2008) – North American blood banks and transfusion services now have a choice when it comes to thermal labeling solutions. Through a new partnership, Computype, Inc. and Niceware International LLC are launching LabelClinic™ — a full featured ISBT 128 label printing systemcompatible with any thermal printer, and at a much lower cost than competitive products.

** LabelClinic™ will be demonstrated at the AABB TxPO in Montreal, Canada, October 4 – 7,
2008 in the Computype booth (#1512) and in the Niceware booth (#2725).

An on-demand label printing software product that can be integrated with current blood bank systems or operate as a standalone, LabelClinic™ contains the full ICCBBA database of 6000+ product codes and offers the end-user an open, cost-effective alternative to the current interfaced printing system for blood container labeling.

The new product launch is the result of feedback from blood bank and transfusion service managers who shared concerns about the high costs and restrictions on thermal printing systems currently available, according to Bruce Wray, Blood Bank Market Manager for Computype, which has been supplying blood label products since the mid-1970s.

“There is frustration among some blood bank managers, because their current or prospective label printing system requires the use of a high-priced, customized printer,” said Wray. “Further, support was often ‘held hostage’ to the purchase of a specific supplier’s blank label stock.”

“The LabelClinic™ product from Niceware answers these concerns by providing a transparent replacement of the commonly-used labeling software for blood identification – it will open up many more choices in printers and label stock, while reducing licensing fees and providing faster updates.

Niceware International provides software to the healthcare community, along with other industries.  Known for highly functional yet cost-effective solutions, Niceware’s LabelClinic™  Print Server has already been validated by leading blood bank software providers, with others in various stages of validation.

“One of the main benefits of LabelClinic™ is that both Client and Server applications are included in the same license,” explains Andrew Matter, President of Niceware. “A customer can purchase LabelClinic™ and begin by using the software in a standalone deployment. When it’s time to integrate with the host system, no additional licensing is required.”

“This partnership will finally bring some flexibility to ISBT 128 label printing,” adds Computype’s Wray.  “With Niceware’s software expertise behind LabelClinic™ and the Computype reputation for quality and in-person service, blood banks and transfusion services can enhance their label printing capabilities while reducing their overall cost of ownership.
