What is Thermal Transfer Print Technology? (In 100 Words or Less)

Thermal transfer is a print technology that utilizes a heated printhead and an ink coated ribbon to transfer an image from the ribbon to the media.

The printhead heats and cools intermittently to transfer the resin or wax resin ink from the ribbon to desired areas. The ink application process allows for extreme durability and high resolution possibilities which makes it great for small scale and harsh environment applications.

One limitation of thermal transfer print technology is color. Some printers allow for dual color printing, but under most circumstances only one colored ink ribbon can be used at a time.
