Prefix
The first five digits on your barcode make up the prefix, and the remaining digits make up the unique sequence: X XXXX XXXXXXXXX. The first digit of the prefix is the product code, and the next four is your institution code. The last digit is a check digit—see FAQ.
Lead Times
Our custom item labels ship within 10 business days from receipt of the order.
We offer spine labels available in polypropylene and polyester label materials. Polypropylene materials are developed to be flexible, making these labels easier to wrap around the spine of your books. Polyester label materials are developed for supreme durability. Our spine labels arrive in kits that include labels, ribbon and a cleaning cloth. The labels are supplied on a 1 or 3-inch core.

The Zebra GX430t thermal transfer printer is compact and reliable—making it the ideal choice for libraries. Each of our standard spine labels are compatible with this model to complete your spine labeling system. The GX430t can print up to 4 inches per second at 300 dpi.
What is a Check digit?
The final character, located on the far right side of the barcode, is called the check digit. It is not a part of the barcode sequence, but rather a device used to detect errors within the sequence. The check digit is calculated from the other numbers in the sequence, so it is not the same for every barcode. The barcode reader will decode the sequence based on an assigned algorithm, and compare the value to the check digit. If no errors are detected the reader will signal a successful scan.
